Five Iron Frenzy - It Was Beautiful

It Was Beautiful
Five Iron Frenzy

We flew over Alaska;
we saw the frozen mountains pierce the clouds.
It was beautiful.
We felt the waves of New Zealand;
the water shimmered beneath a moonlight shroud.
It was beautiful.
Close to home in an ordinary room we felt You there.
It's my favorite memory.
You're so beautiful.

The spring in Appalachia,
with flowers swaying above the fields of green.
It was beautiful.
Driving in New England,
the road littered with bright October leaves.
It was beautiful.
Close to home in an ordinary room we felt You there.
It's my favorite memory. You're so beautiful to me.
Thanks for the songs,
these seven friends and eight good years.
It is You that made them sweet, it was beautiful.

Pictures looking back,
just snapshots of the past cannot compare,
to feeling what we felt, through anything that came,
that You were there.

A thousand smiling faces,
backlit and bouncing to the beat.
It was beautiful.
As many soaring voices, forever changed by Your mercy.
It was beautiful.
Far away from all the lights and noise we felt You there.
It's my favorite memory.
You're so beautiful to me.
Thanks for the songs,
these seven friends and eight good years.
It is You that made them sweet.
You're so beautiful to me.

Explication of Five Iron Frenzy - It Was Beautiful:

This song is basically documenting all the awesome times that has happened in the 8 years that Five Iron Frenzy were together making music, travelling the world. This is especially poignant, considering this was on their last album before they broke up.

Still wish I was able to see them, they're an awesome Ska band...

Anyways, back to the song, it starts off with two awesome descriptions of their travels: one being flying over mountains, while the other being looking upon the water. Up/down. And I must say, "the water shimmered beneath a moonlight shroud" is one of the most awesome lines I've ever heard...it's such a strong description, just awesome...

Then the talk about finding God w/ everyone in the band, "It's my favourite memory", that's awesome as well...it shows how great it's been the past few years, and the main reason why they were together in the first place.

Now, the next two descriptions in the 2nd verse I find to be even more awesome. With "flowers swaying above the fields of green", you could just imagine yourself on fields of rolling hills, Sound of Music style, with the appalachian mountains in the background, the sun beaming down on the bright flowers etc...quite awesome.

But that's not nearly as awesome as "the road littered with bright october leaves." By this point in the song, I always feel kinda moved. I mean, this one really hits it home, because I remember walking around BCIT in autumn listening to this song, then I hear this lyric, with leaves littering the path in front of me...oh man, that was quite an awesome feeling...music really brought me through BCIT, esp. 2nd year...it being october right now, it felt right to explicate this song.

Oh, also to add, do u guys remember on Sheena's blog a while back, the pic of a road with autumn trees on the side? Yeah, this song was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that, and that brought back amazing memories...wow, pretty, indeed...

Anyways, the song continues on to its focal point, back to the room where they found God, and they thank Him for 8 friends being able to have such awesome 8 years, etc etc...quite nice.

Then, as they're looking back at the pictures they took, they realize it pales in comparison to the feeling that knowing God was with them. They know that these pictures doesn't do the feeling justice, therefore they write this song to try to let other people in on the awesomeness. Or something like that.

In the final verse, the final description is of an actual concert, w/ a crowd of fans "backlit and bouncing to the beat", now that's just beautiful. It really made me wanna be in a Ska band again, except one that wasn't as raunchy nor as stilfling as my old one...just the way they describe the experience, it's just awesome...at least, it is once you're as into the song as I usually am by this point, heheh...

Anyways, it ends off at it's point, the room, this time showing that the disctractions of the world were forgotten at that moment, being "far away from all the lights and noise." I always find that point in the song quite amazing. I want what they felt. I wanna travel the world and experience all these wonders they experienced. I wanna have seven friends to share this experience with. And most of all, I wanna be able to experience God in such a visceral way as they did.

Now, to be quite honest, the first few times I heard the song, it wasn't all that great. But when I started really listening to the song, esp. the "water shimmered beneath the moonlight shroud", and while walking in BCIT, this song quickly rose up the chart of my most favourite songs of all time.

Okay, so maybe not the best explication ever, but c'mon it's late saturday night, and I should be studying for my freakin' midterms and such...next one shall probably be better, but don't hold your breath, heheh...the main reason I write this blog is to have awesome songs posted down, as well as to share these awesome songs w/ everyone else.

iHud seems to be exceptionally awesome...just click my link at the top of the lyrics, click on "download ready" or whatever, then you'll download this song! AWESOME!!! Hopefully there's no hidden catch, lol...

Until next time, I guess...
